Details Sample Characterization

Mineral: Goethite
Reference: HMQB14
Preparation: prepared by neutralizing a 500 mL 0.5 mol/L ferric nitrate solution (Fe(NO3)3 ·9H2O) with a 400 mL 2.5 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution. The protocol described by Leckie and coworkers (1-2) was used, in which the sodium hydroxide solution is added quickly. The solution was stirred vigorously during the addition of the sodium hydroxide, which was added in a nitrogen atmosphere in a glove box. The precipitate obtained was aged for 24 hours at 60°C. The goethite suspension was then dialyzed (Spectra/Por membrane 2) against Milli-Q water. The water was changed twice a day until its conductivity was close to 1 μS/m. The suspensions were stored in polypropylene containers at 4°C.
