Details Sample Characterization

Mineral: Nontronite
Reference: JLDBF08
Supplier: Clay Minerals Society Source Clays Repository
Trade Name: NAu-2 (Nontronite, brown color, Al-poor+tetr.hedr. Fe,Uley Mine,South Australia)
Preparation: sonicated briefly in order to disperse loosely aggregated particles, and then centrifuged to obtain a size fraction of 0.02–0.5 µm.
homoionized NAu-2 in Na prepared: treated by repetitive ion exchange (4 times) in aqueous 1.0M NaClO4 solution (Bukka et al., 1992; Baeyens and Bradbury, 1997; Bradbury and Baeyens, 2005; Hofstetter et al., 2006); dialyzed with Milli-Q water for a week, introducing fresh water twice a day in order to wash out any residual cations and perchlorate. The dialyzed NAu-2 was freeze-dried and stored.
CEC: 69.7 ± 7.3 meq/100g
Sample characterized via: ☑ Scanning electron microscope (SEM)
