Details Sample Characterization

Mineral: Boehmite
Reference: BPGTD91
Preparation: modification of the procedure reported by Santos et al.: 4.25 g of Al metal powder (99.99% purity, 100 mesh powder from Aldrich Chemical Co., Inc.) weighed into a 1-L Erlenmeyer flask, 200 mL of 0.5 mmol L−1 HgCl2 solution added, stirred for 10 min, washed thoroughly with distilled, deionized water, then 12.5 mL of glacial acetic acid and 50 mL of distilled, deionized water were added, mixture was stirred while heated at 75 °C until H2 gas evolved and allowed to stand at room temperature overnight, boiled at constant volume for about 8h, heated in a pressure vessel at 170 °C for 8 h to form the boehmite, freeze-dried, boehmite resuspended in 250 mL of 30% H202, boiled at constant volume for 6 h, freeze-dried for storage
Crystallinity: fibers
Dimension: 0.4-0.6 µm in length, 0.05 µm in diameter
