Details Sample Characterization

Mineral: Goethite
Reference: BMS01
Preparation: prepared according to the procedure described by [NTJ90], by reacting NaOH with FeCl3·6H2O; solid was precipitated by progressive addition (3 ml min-1) of NaOH (1 M and 8 M) to a ferric solution (380 mg of FeCl3 in 500 ml H2O); precipitation was stopped at pH close to 12; suspension was mixed in a 1-D shaker (Comfort) in order to obtain a well-crystalline compound; after centrifugation (30 min, 40640G), the solid was washed 3 times with acidified solution (pH~3) and 3 times with C2H5OH. Finally, the solid was gently ground and stored at 30°C
Crystallinity: ellipsoidal particles
Dimension: length between 0.1 and 2 µm
Purity: 95% goethite, 5% lepidocrocite
Sample characterized via: ☑ X-ray Diffraction (XRD)
