Details Sample Characterization
Mineral: |
Hematite |
Reference: |

Preparation: |
prepared by aging a concentrated iron hydroxide gel (33) . The gel was made by adding 100 mL of 6.0 M NaOH (Merck, p.a.) to 100 mL of 2.0 M FeCl3 (Fluka, p.a.) in a Pyrex bottle and mixing with a propeller stirrer for 10 min at room temperature. The bottle was sealed, and the gel was aged at 1007C for 48 h. After being cooled to room temperature, the particles were washed twice with deionized water by centrifugation and then dialyzed against deionized water for 12 days. The overall yield of the entire procedure was around 90%. Three such batches were combined to a single stock suspension of 15.7 ± 0.2 g/L and stored in the same way as Hm-1. |
Crystallinity: |
spheroidal, somewhat irregular, surface is rough and the particles are reminiscent of a cauliflower |
Dimension: |
radius = 61 nm, particles rather uniform |
Purity: |
pure |
