CIS - Toolbox

The CIS institutes use a broad arsenal of large-scale equipment and specialized methods to obtain high-resolution information on interface processes. The Center of Interface Studies is therefore a great opportunity to network interface research in and around Dresden even more closely. The outstanding technical equipment, coupled with a high level of technical expertise, makes interface research in Dresden even more attractive for top researchers from all over the world. At the same time, the Center of Interface Studies is to become more visible to industry in order to promote these collaborations. Used methods are for example:

  • Spectroscopy (µTRLFS, XAS, CTR/RAXR, IR, Raman)
  • Microscopy (SEM, TEM, interferometry, AFM, Raman, µ-PIV)
  • Extensive characterization equipment in the HIF interface lab
  • Specialized periphery in flotation processing lab
  • Tomography at interfaces (µCT, PET, PIV)
  • Interfacial rheology
  • Foam and froth analysis
  • Adaptive optics for imaging at interfaces (via DresdenConcept partner at TU Dresden)
  • Simulation programs and methods (ANSYS-CFX, OpenFOAM, COMSOL, PhreeqC, kinetic Monte Carlo)
  • Methods of spatial statistics and stochastic geometry (e.g. stochastic processes, geostatistics, stochastic microstructure models)
  • Databases
