The aqueous phase was separated by high speed centrifugation at 8000g for 20 min and subsequently acidified to pH < 2 prior to analysis for uranium and total phosphorus by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), respectively.
