The efficiency of the froth flotation process depends on the encounter of particle and bubbles based on the hydrodynamics within the cell and the surface chemistry of the pulp for the film rupture during the attachment process.

Particle motion in the froth
The motion of hydrophobic valuable mineral particles in the froth is decisive for the recovery rate in flotation while the motion of hydrophilic particles strongly influences the grade of the concentrate. Particle motion is investigated in our group by new techniques.

Carrier flotation
To remove very small particles from suspension an upscaling of their sizes, e.g. by stimulating their attachment to larger carrier particles (e.g. calcite for collecting TiO2 fines) is desirable. Currently, works with magnetic carrier particles are ongoing.
