PhD Student (f/m/d) Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

At the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF), innovative technologies for the circular economy are developed to provide and use mineral and metal-bearing raw materials more efficiently and to recycle them in an environmentally friendly way.

The Department of Processing is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, subject to project approval. 

Your tasks

  • Responsibility of a German publicly funded project within a cluster
  • Planning, Conducting and Documentation of Experiments in Lab and Pilot Scale
  • Investigation of the Beneficiation of Black Mass within the Recycling of Lithium-Ion-Batteries via Froth Flotation and other processes
  • Analysis and Characterization of complex Streams of Materials for Process Mass Balancing involving solid state methods (e.g. SEM/EDX) and wet chemical analysis
  • Publications of Findings on Conferences and in Peer-reviewed Journals

Your profile

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of mechanical process engineering, mineral processing, particle technology and recycling
  • Knowing a programming language is an advantage (e.g. Python, R, etc.)
  • You are team-oriented, curious and enjoy working scientifically
  • You have very good English (C1 level) and basic German language skills (at least A1 level)
  • Confident with Microsoft Office applications
