The professorship is linked to the management of a working group at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology

of the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR/HIF).

The joint appointment is based on the “Jülich model”.

The research focus of the professorship will generally be on methods for the correction, processing, analysis, 3D integration and visualization of image data in the context of remote sensing. Particular attention will be paid to the various methods for the contact-free acquisition of spatial information along the electromagnetic spectrum. In addition to the spectrum visible to humans, this also includes high-dimensional hyperspectral or thermal imaging. There is also a focus on the interdisciplinary application of methods across different scales and platforms - from global to local perspectives and from satellite-based to autonomous systems such as drones and land-based robots.

Applicants should be internationally recognized in the respective fields and successful in acquiring third-party funding and be able to offer courses in German and English. Experience in leading scientific working groups is expected.

As the Resource University the TU Bergakademie Freiberg follows the profile lines Geo, Material, Energy and Environment. With top performance in research and teaching, it assumes responsibility for sustainable resource management. Through excellent research and teaching, future-oriented results are achieved together with national and international partners and highly qualified junior staffed are trained. The HZDR is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. Its interdisciplinary scientific focus is on the research fields of energy, health and matter. In particular, the HIF has the task of combining the topics of energy and resource efficiency and developing innovative technologies including digitalization and AI up to pilot scale. The aim is to extract primary mineral raw materials sustainably and efficiently and to recycle secondary raw materials as comprehensively as possible, thereby making an important contribution to the circular economy.

We seek a scientist´s personality who feels motivated to lead a transdisciplinary working group in the future and to maintain the necessary bandwidth in teaching. Very good command of German and English as well as the ability and willingness to teach courses in German and English are expected.

You fulfill the general requirements for appointment according to § 59 of the “Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz” (Higher Education Act of Saxony), dated May 31, 2023 (Saxon Law and Ordinance Gazette Year 2023) in its currently valid and applicable version. Essential requirements include a university degree, a Ph.D. degree, and additional proof of qualification for a professorship, typically shown by an habilitation (post-doc) degree, a previous tenure as a professor or an equivalent excellent research record.
