OVERVIEW

ATI's ImpacTV2 is pin-compatible successor to ImpacTV, a highly integrated TV-out chip that produces crisp, flicker-free graphics for a big-screen experience on entertainment, corporate and education PCs and allows PC video to be saved onto VCR tapes.

ImpacTV2 incorporates refinements to ImpacTV's on-chip circuitry for scaling, flicker removal, and artifact suppression resulting in even more impressive image quality.

These techniques make ImpacTV2 ideal for internet browsing by overcoming the quality problems like image flicker, illegible text and low-definition graphics that make other TV encoders unuseable. ImpacTV2 incorporates support for Macrovision, the analog copy-protection scheme chosen by the DVD industry, to allow copy-protected content to be legally displayed on a TV. ImpacTV2 also incorporates support for wide-screen TVs.

For maximum compatibility, ImpacTV2 incorporates programmable timing, allowing it to generate TV signals from graphics display modes ranging from 320x200 up to 800x600. This provides full support of legacy VGA modes and newer, low-resolution games modes required by Microsoft DirectX.

Easy-to-use Windows utilities provide users with a simple mechanism for sizing and positioning the TV image, setting contrast and color saturation levels and controlling filter settings.
